Notice to the customers on the possible effect on FURUNO’s Inmarsat satellite communication terminals emanating from Inmarsat service migration from I-3 to I-4 satellites

2018-05-14

FURUNO ELECTRIC CO., LTD.
Marine Electronic Products Division

Following on from the fact that Inmarsat-3 (I-3) satellites are approaching their end of operational life, Inmarsat has announced their plan for gradual service migration to Inmarsat-4 (I-4) constellation. The anticipated effects on our Inmarsat-C, Mini C and Fleet 77 terminals are specified as follows:

  1. Inmarsat-C terminals (FELCOM15/FELCOM18)
In the sea area where migration takes place, a caution “Synchronization loss” may well be generated. If such is the case, it would be necessary for the users to manually select the appropriate sea area in the Ocean Region setting menu.
Please note that there would be no effects on distress alerting functionality.
How to change the Ocean Region
  2. Inmarsat Mini C Terminals (FELCOM16/FELCOM19) and Inmarsat Fleet 77 terminal (FELCOM70)
As the terminals are capable of automatically switching the satellites to track, there would be no actions required for the users in this respect.

Please see the following WEB site of Inmarsat for further details and the latest information about the service migration in question.
