Agreement has been reached amongst Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd., MOL Techno-Trade, Ltd., and FURUNO with respect to jointly develop navigation support system utilizing augmented reality (AR) technology.

Based upon the information derived from Automatic Identification System (AIS), the information about other vessels as well as landmarks, such as buoys, is to be captured on display devices or tablets. Also, images of the view taken from the windscreen of the bridge can be presented on the tablet, and this imagery is to be overlaid with the AR object images, which would support the operators visually in operating ships as well as in keeping watch during navigation.
